What is Entertaiment?
About Entertaiment
A form of recreation affording pleasure, diversion, or amusement: a musical entertainment.
The word entertainment is derived from the Latin intertenere, meaning “to hold inside.” The sense has evolved to include all forms of recreation, from something as small as a crossword puzzle to a banquet adapted for two; from a personal selection of pre-recorded media to performances intended for thousands.
The enduring popularity of many entertainments suggests that they meet some very fundamental human needs. These may include the elicitation of emotions such as fear, surprise, happiness, sadness, or disgust; or they may provide mental stimulation by challenging the mind, encouraging imagination, and arousing cognitive activity. Some entertainments may even stimulate the brain to release seratonin and dopamine, which are chemicals that help us understand and navigate a complex social world.
